''Natyanchali'' theatre fest underway

In commemoration of 150th anniversary of First War of Independence of 1857 and 60th anniversary of Indian Independence a four day theatre festival “Natyanchali” was inaugurated on Monday at Town hall. Director, North East Zone Cultural Centre, Hekhali Zhimomi IAS along with Deputy Secretary Sangeet Natak Akademi, Dr O P Bharathi attended the programme. Deputy Secretary in his speech said the programme was conducted to inspire other artist and also stated that it was for the first time such kind of festival was organized in Nagaland. Meanwhile Hekhali Zhimomi disclosed that many theatre groups were coming up in the state and NEZCC was encouraging such kind of group to come up. At the same time she also lamented on the lack of professional theatre directors with required degrees in the state. Nepali play, “Legend of Gurkha war” directed by Gopal Gayane and Garo play “A-Chick-E Sang” directed by Pabitra Rabha played at the inaugural programme enthralled the audience. The festival organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi and NEZCC was attended by all Northeastern states except Arunachal Pradesh
