Dimapur police on Monday arrested two persons on charges of extortion from different pockets of town.
In the first incident, police said one person identified as Inobu Assumi (26), son of Kheshebu of Litami village was arrested from Plaza bakery at around 7:40 p.m. while he was forcibly taking away Rs 6000 from the counter.
Giving details of the case, police said the accused had entered the bakery counter and told a worker to inform the manager that his elder brother had sent him to collect the money.
The police personnel in that vicinity were alerted about the incident and subsequently SDPO Dimapur along with other personnel arrived at the spot and apprehended the accused. The money was later recovered from his possession, police said.
On interrogation, the accused confessed that he was the younger brother of DMC chairperson Khekaho Assumi.
In another incident, one Manish Prasad (23) was arrested while extorting money from railway parcel office at around 4:30 p.m. Police disclosed that the accused often collects Rs Ten from each parcel in the name of different underground factions.
