The law and order situation in Nagaland seemed to be improving if one is to go by the reply tendered by state home minister Imkong L. Imchen to a starred question by Congress MLA Tokheho on day one of the 4th session of the 11th Nagaland Legislative Assembly. The number of kidnapped persons during 2009 (July) have nosedived to 32 as against last year’s corresponding figures of 54, and the number of persons killed to 3 from last year’s 25. Also, this year, 28 persons have been rescued or released so far, as against 25 last year. The number of businessmen killed so far this year is also just 3 as compared to 6 last year. The only saddening feature of the law and order situation according to the reply was the number of action taken against reported cases. This year, out of 20 cases registered, only 13 have been arrested and 9 charge-sheeted so far while investigations into 11 cases were pending. The corresponding figures for last year was; 25 arrested, 15 charge-sheeted, final report completed in 6 cases and 4 pending investigations out of 20 cases registered. (Correspondent)
