A National Cadet Corps air wing will be set up here to help Mizo boys realise their dreams of becoming pilots in the Indian Air Force. ''Fund has already been sanctioned for the NCC air wing. We have set up a hanger at the Lengpui Aiport where two microlite aircraft will be placed. The air wing will become operational after the next few months,''said Joe Lalhmingliana, a retired wing commander of the Indian Air Force, who is now the officer on special duty of the state civil aviation department. Lalhmingliana, who regretted that there were only a handful of Mizo pilots in the Indian Air Force so far, said, ''Since those NCC cadets who have acquired C certificate in the air wing are eligible to enter the Indian Air Force directly, the air wing will hopefully help realise their dreams of flying.'' ''As of now, entry of Mizo youths into Air Force and Navy is very poor while a good number of Mizo youths have entered the Army, especially the Assam Regiment,'' he said. According to UNI report, besides lack of career awareness, the educational standard in Mizoram is extremely poor as the entry in the two armed forces requires technical know-how. ''The inferior standard of our education may be one of the reasons why our boys find it tough to join the two armed forces-- Air Force and Navy,'' Lalhmingliana said. Compared to the youths of the neighbouring states, Mizo were also not found to be keen enough to join the armed forces. ''Whenever a recruitment rally is conducted in Aizawl for any of the three armed forces for the entire Northeast, more than half of the participants are from the neighbouring states,'' Lalhmingliana said.
