Chicken, egg sellers strike

In order to press for reviewal of rates of chicken and eggs, traders engaged in chicken and egg business in Dimapur have decided to stop sales from July 9 till their demands to refix the rates are met. A trader who spoke on condition of anonymity told this Reporter that the chicken and egg sellers want revision of rates. He said the price of local chicken fixed at Rs.165 per kilogram should be reduced by Rs.15 -20 and that the price for broiler chicken be raised from Rs.80 to Rs. 95-100 per kilogram. Meanwhile police sources said a complaint was lodged with East police station Dimapur, against a chicken seller selling broiler chicken for Rs. 120, much above the fixed rate of Rs. 80 at new market Dimapur. Police seized 16 chickens (about 40-45 kgs.) from the trader’s shop however, the trader was missing during the raid. Meanwhile Vihoto DMC member in-charge rate control, when asked about unchecked prices said that a meeting would be convened and steps would be taken to control the prices in Dimapur market.
