In a reply to an independent MLA, K Wungnaosing Keishing from Ukhrul district of Manipur on Thursday expressed raised the issue of works taken up by government for rehabilitation for the people who suffered in massive fire burnt incident in March this year which totally destroyed Wino Bazar in Ukhrul. While blaming the government for delay in taking up rehabilitation works, he insisted the government to table details of the loss of properties in the fire incident and relief aid provided to the suffering people. In reply to the question, chief minister, O Ibobi Singh said that government has provided relief materials amounting to Rs 6.51 lakh to the people whose properties were destroyed in the fire. He said government has extended all possible help by opening two relief camps and provided 250 blankets, 150 quintals of rice, 3000 litres of kerosene oil, 200 kgs of dal, 50 packets of salt and 100 litres edible oil to the people who lost their houses and shops in the incident. He also informed that 21 pucca structures, 12 strutures partially pucca and 39 wooden shops were destroyed in the fire. The state government has been planning to rehabilitate them through a special package apart from wiping loans. However, the government has no particular policy for resettlement of fire victims and implementing assurance policies for shops owners are yet to be made clear.
