The much acclaimed Nagaland Legislative Assembly complex, called as one of the best in the region as well as in the country was proved wrong when the house had to be prematurely adjourned for lunch as the proceedings could not be heard due to the heavy downpour. The proceedings of the house was underway with Congress MLA Tokheho taking the time when the heavy down pour suddenly started at around noon. The noise of the downpour on the roof coupled with the poor sound system contributed to the inaudible voice of the members’ speech. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio stood up and claimed that the speech of the opposition members could be heard but then suggested the deputy speaker Ralanthung who was chairing the proceedings to prematurely adjourn the house for lunch. Assuring the opposition that there was sufficient time for discussion, the deputy speaker adjourned the house. It may be mentioned that the state government earlier claimed that the new NLA complex which was constructed spending hundreds of crores of rupees was one of the best in the region as well as in the country. However, it was gradually realized that there were various problems due to faulty designs. State chief minister Neiphiu Rio during one of the assembly sessions earlier was seen complaining of certain faulty designs particularly the entrance into the Assembly Hall and was making certain corrective suggestions. Sources from the Assembly Secretariat disclosed that Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie, once on his return to the state after visiting certain state Assembly Halls expressed total disappointment over the construction. and design of the State Assembly Secretariat complex even after spending so much money. Only few years after inauguration now, it was learnt that major corrective works inside the Secretariat Complex were in the pipeline. It may also be mentioned that the present New Assembly complex was constructed by M/s Mohan Singh and M/s Ansari & Son after prolonged delay. Of late, both the firms have been in the limelight following various allegations from the NCSU.
