A water reservoir for irrigation purpose in a farm in Mokokchung was inaugurated by Subotemsu Deputy Director Land Resources Department, Thursday. The reservoir with a 30,000 liter capacity was constructed under Integrated Watershed Development Program (IWDP) to support land utilization. Inaugurating the reservoir, the Deputy Director said with the new reservoir, there would be no problem even in dry season for cultivation as the reservoir would be supplying enough water. He encouraged continuing cultivation even in the dry season so that there would be crop rotation throughout the year with a maximum harvest of 2-3 times a year which would boost the economy of the farmer. He discouraged system of just one time harvest in a single year. Lauding the workmanship for construction of the reservoir, Deputy Director added that it was time people should not entirely depend upon government but people should come forward on a 50-50 basis as the government resources alone would not be sufficient. Earlier in the program, the keynote address was delivered by Khoto Koutsu, District Project Officer, Land Resources Department Mokokchung. In his brief address, he said that department provided funding for reservoir under IWDP. Farmer/landowner L. Bendang Kichu also spoke at the program where he expressed gratitude to the department for the assistance.
