Farmers tour Shillong

A farmers’ exposure trip to Shillong, organized by Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Mon, was conducted from July 2 to 5 where 14 farmers and two officials participated which was led by Wochamo Patton, BTT convener, and Vivotuo Medom, BTT member, Phomching block. According to a press release issued by Wochamo Patton, BTT convener, Phomching block, the team visited ICAR complex, Barapani on July 3 where they had interaction with the farm manager who highlighted the farmers on hill farming system/organic farming system and vermi-composting and later visited Fishery and Animal Husbandary department where they were imparted with the technical know-how on aspect of reproduction while exhibits of activities and success stories of ICAR, Barapani, were exhibited to them. The release also said the farmers were taken to Central Potato Research Station (CPRS) on July 4 where they were explained and demonstrated on package of practices on True Potato Seed (TPS) by scientist and research associate of the station and later they were explained on suitable varieties, insect, pest and diseases prone to Northeast region and its management practices. The team also visited vegetable farm, Shillong Peak, Elephant Fall and Wards Lake.
