State school edn director clarifies report

Reacting to a report of his arrest in a section of the local press, the director of school education Nipusilie Angami Saturday clarified that “cognate power” for any appointment in the directorate of school education was withdrawn since 2002 vide order no.EDS/CA-III/S6 dated April 8, 2002. Stating that the order came into effect from February 1, 2002, the director said he took charge as Head of Department (HoD) only on May 16, 2005. “During my tenure as HoD, no appointment was made without the approval of the government and all appointments which were made during my tenure were all routed through files,” the school education director claimed in a statement. Also, clarifying to the reported number of “bogus appointments” and “employees” as 3000 during 2002-07, the director said since this issue was being pursued by SIT, the actual number of appointments and nature of appointments, whether bogus or genuine, would only be known once SIT complete probe. Further, he reiterated that during his tenure as HoD all appointments were made through “proper channels” and with the approval of the government. While admitting that there could be cases of such appointments which were made without routing through proper files or without the government approval, Angami claimed he was not responsible for such appointments which were made without his knowledge.
