Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner Alemtemshi Jamir on Monday termed the ongoing Trucker’s strike called by All Assam Truck Owners’, Drivers’ and Handymen Association as a very positive sign which speaks out the peoples’ voices. “Why only in Bokajan, why not here and also through out the state”, Jamir said while pointing out the suffering of the innocent public due to skyrocketing prices of commodities due to heavy taxation. “Perhaps we are talking to the wrong people, we should not talk to the Underground but to the people”, he added. Alemtemshi was addressing the Graduation Day of the Entrepreneur Associates “Entrepreneurial Skills Development Training” (ESDT) conducted under the year of Capacity Building held at the Hotel Japfu conference hall here. The biggest hindrance for entrepreneur was violence he said and recalled the problems and suffering faced by entrepreneurs few years back. “An entrepreneur who starts a small Pan shop would be taxed even before he had sold a Pan”, he recalled but at the same time felt things were changing fast in the state which gave a ray of hope. “Things are happening in Nagaland in a dynamic way”, he said and strongly felt that in few years time “people who think positive will have an upper hand”. He also expressed dismay at what he termed as “Jhum mentality” of the Nagas. “One start something with enthusiasm but slowly the enthusiasm fades halfway”, he said and stressed the need for sustained enthusiasm in any business venture. He also told the gathering that the state government was ready to help the people of the state but at the same time discouraged seeking subsidy which he said corrupted both the giver and receiver. Citing an example, he revealed that during the recent distribution of tractors to the farmers with 75% subsidy under Chief Minister Corpus Fund, some of the beneficiaries before receiving the tractor had started negotiation with buyers from Assam side during the distribution ceremony. The additional chief secretary also lauded the Entrepreneur Associate for successfully conducting the training for the young aspiring entrepreneurs and expressed government’s willingness to extend more help for such venture and appealed the organization to expand such project to interior parts of the state as well. He also welcomed the suggestion for recognition of successful entrepreneurs and suggested to form a committee to select and submit lists of such successful and deserving entrepreneurs within a week to the government for consideration for Governor commendation award for this year’s Independence Day. On the occasion of the graduation day, the chief guest also handed out the certificates and the earnings made by the trainees and cheques to the eight beneficiaries and upcoming entrepreneurs selected for EA micro loan financing. Earlier, Neichute Duolo gave a brief note on the ESDT while Rekha Rose Dukru gave a report on ESDT and Nitoshe Sheqi spoke on behalf of the graduates. Entrepreneur Associate organized the three months Entrepreneur Skills Development Training through the support of the state government under the year of capacity building programme to promote self employment and job opportunities for youths. Under the programme, altogether 32 youths were trained and 85 self employed youth were reached out.
