Army chief reviews security in NE

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Deepak Kapoor June 23 and 24 visited Rangapahar Military Station accompanied by Central Family Welfare Organisation (CFWO) president, Kirti Kapoor and GOC in-Chief Eastern Command, Lt Gen VK Singh. The visiting dignitaries were received by GOC 3 Corps Lt Gen Rakesh Kumar Loomba at the helipad with traditional Naga welcome. According to a defense, the General was briefed about the security situation with special reference to insurgency in Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram, South Assam, Upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. He also held detailed discussion relating to security situation in North East and reviewed the deployment of security forces (SFs) while also stressed on the need for synergy of efforts at all levels, the release stated. Further, urging all ranks to rededicate themselves to help the local populace of the region in every possible way, the COAS emphasized the need to keep abreast with the latest technology in view of the ongoing modernization of armed forces. CFWO president, Kirti Kapoor also interacted with the families at Rangapahar and enquired about welfare schemes for the families and children, the release added.
