Ban order on check posts

Following the state home department order banning tax collections at check gates, DC Dimapur Maong Aier Wednesday said separate check posts maintained by excise taxes and transport department would be closed down and if necessary, would function from the police check gates. Stating this through an official order issued here, the DC also directed the veterinary and animal husbandry department to establish quarantine posts at state entry points as the present system was not serving the purpose. The order also warned that collection by students’ unions and other illegal activities stand prohibited and would be tackled by law enforcing agencies. The order also disclosed that the general administration would take steps to stop collection practices of money/commission from traders of new market and other markets in Dimapur, the DC warned that criminal case would be registered against those indulging in such practices. The DC also underlined the need to strengthen prosecution and ensure that person arrested for indulging in extortion/collection of money are not released. Further, stating that manning of police check gates would be carried out by state police, Assam Rifles and CRPF on rotation, the order said personnel manning the check post should have their names indicated while on duty The order said district administration would monitor and carry out periodic checking and that departments shall immediately suspend any staff violating the order on receipt of DC’s report and begin inquiry proceedings against the erring staff. Arrest order DC Dimapur Maong Aier, through a separate order has directed SP Dimapur and the law enforcing agency to arrest and prosecute erring government servants as per the law for disobeying the government order that banned the collection of illegal fees/taxes on commercial vehicles. According to the order, the violation was committed by Excise and Police personnel manning New Field check gate on June 23 between 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The DC in the order, said that the matter must be dealt with immediately in order to avoid the breach of public peace and tranquility.
