Central Inter-Ministerial team to visit Imphal

A Central Inter-Ministerial Team led by special consultant (North East), Planning Commission of India, Firoza Mehoratra is scheduled to arrive at Imphal to review the status of implementation of various development programmes taken up in the state. State authorities have started preparation for the visit of the Central team arriving in the state on June 29, official sources said. The other four members of the team include SN Brohmo Choudury, advisor (NE), Planning Commission, Naveen Verma, joint secretary, ministry of home affairs, SC Gautam, consultant, ministry of rural development and one representative of the ministry of social justice and empowerment. The inter-ministerial team will hold a meeting on June 30 to review implementation of various developmental programmes including rehabilitation of drug addicts, surrender cum rehabilitation schemes, etc. undertaken by the Manipur government under Centre Sponsorship. The team most importantly would review the progress of implementation of conservation and management of Loktak lake and associated wetlands, rehabilitation programs for the surrendered militants and drug addicts in the state, official sources here said. With the funding of the Central government, Manipur government has been developing a rehabilitation centre for surrendered militants in Jiribam sub-division of Imphal east district.
