A two-day workshop on mass media was organized by Peace Channel at DAN Training Centre, 4th Mile, Dimapur on July 17 and 18.
Animating the session on the first day, Rev. Fr. Nazarius SDB stressed on the power of media and its multiple roles in the modern society. Highlighting the positive and negative aspects of media he asserted certain sections of the media thrive on the insecurities of the youth and that many media houses target the youth and young adults. Through an elaborate discussion, he impressed the participants on the bad side of media particularly in youngsters’ mind and advised the youth to be alert and analytical about the content of any media.
On the second day, Fr. Tom, Rector, Mission Home, Manja discussed on how to use media as a tool for advocacy and pointed out that media played important role in today’s world, be it government, NGOs or an individual. While identifying the various ways of harnessing media he also elaborated on how to do it professionally. Further, the resource person gave various tips on press release, interview and conducting press conference and also invited the student and participants to get involved with media and build a career.
The workshop which was participated by 25 youths and teachers from various institutions in Dimapur concluded with evaluation and sharing by the participants.
