Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) National secretary Dr Jimmy George on ruling out a merger with the Congress party said NCP was one of the five major national parties in the country. Addressing the programme for installation of new NCP staff president at tourist lodge Dimapur, the National secretary said it was hard work, devotion and sincerity which would strengthen the party and not the number of people it have as members. Dr George stated that state Chief Minister Rio have risen to the aspiration of the people and pointed that Nagaland being an agricultural state, the party has an important role to play with state agriculture minister Dr Chumben who was installed as the party’s president on Wednesday. The national secretary also disclosed that the party president and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar promised all possible help to the state and also revealed that a special package for the state was in the offing. He urged the party workers and officials to unite together and make it a major political party in the state.
Felicitating the newly appointed office bearers secretary general (NE), NCP, Neiba Ndang expressed hope that the new team would fill the aspirations of the people. “We have prepared our ground at grass root level” he stated. Ndang pointed out that the party has a crucial role to play in the Congress led UPA led government and at the same time stated that Indian National Congress (INC) in the state was fading away and a sinking boat. The former speaker also stated that parties like Trinamool Congress; Janata Dal (U) has no future in the state. He later urged the party officials to explain, educate and cultivate the party to success.
Dr Chumben in his speech thanked the party national president Sharad Pawar and P A Sangma for appointing him as the state unit party president. He admitted that joining a party has become a necessity and at the same time promised to the state unit. Dr Chumben also disclosed that even though the NPF party has the required numbers of legislators, NPF led government has assured them of full cooperation. “It depends upon how much leverage the NCP leaders give to Nagaland” he added.
Outgoing president and newly appointed national joint convener (Legal cell) NCP, P Lohe called upon the gathering to join a party by principal not by other reasons. He also stated that the next government cannot be formed without the NCP.
Earlier the function was chaired by general secretary S Azio Kithan while the welcome address was delivered by general secretary Chinny Magh.
Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) 38 Wokha A/C has expressed gratitude to union minister for agriculture and national president Sharad Pawar , NCP general secretary P.A Sangma and permanent member working committee S.R Kohli for appointing Dr. Chumben Murry, minister for agriculture Nagaland as president NCP state unit.
The unit in a release expressed confidence in his leadership and stated that under Dr. Chumben Murry, the unit hoped that progress and prosperity of the party would flourish in Nagaland.
NCP 38 Wokha A/C also expressed gratitude to national leaders of NCP for showing concern towards the people of northeast and Nagaland and expressed hope that more developmental activities would take place throughout the region in the future.
