33rd badminton C’ships

The 33rd Inter District and State Open Badminton Championship concluded Friday at the Indoor Badminton Stadium, Kohima, with parliamentary secretary for art & culture, tourism and law & justice, Yitachu gracing the closing ceremony as the chief guest. In his address, Yitachu congratulated the Nagaland Badminton Association (NBA) for conducting the tournament and also for conducting talent search, coaching camps and taking part in various national level championships in the country. He also said that DAN government under the able leadership of Neiphiu Rio as chief minister is going all out to promote sports and even adopted the state policy where the winners of various sports events at different level of competition have been awarded with cash awards. Chairing the function K. Kire, IPS, president Nagaland Badminton Association said that a total of 229 participants, with the youngest nine year old and oldest a seventy year took part in the four-day championships. The vote of thanks was said by D. Suokhrie, secretary KDBA. Later on, a double exhibition match was played between Minister for Planning & Coordination, Evaluation, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry and Parliamentary affairs, T.R. Zeliang partnered with Sachopra Vero, director Youth Resources and Sports against parliamentary secretary for art and culture, tourism and law and justice, Yitachu partnered with MLA Shetoyi followed by the finals matches.
