A seminar on Consumers Rights and Awareness was conducted with Kezhokhoto Savi, Advocate President Nagaland Voluntary Consumers Organization (NVCO) as Resource person on July 23 at DC’s conference hall, Mon
Besides imparting awareness on consumers’ rights and duties, resource person Savi appealed to district administration, Mon Town Council (MTC) and NGOs of the District to constitute a Consumers Society at the district level to create more awareness on consumer’s protection, their rights and responsibilities. He further urged them to control the price of every commodity in the market to enforce uniformity of prices in the district.
Clarifying on medicine price in Nagaland, he said the directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland has directed the Assistant Drugs Controller and Drugs Inspectors of all districts in the state to sell all pharmaceutical items as drugs and medicine as per Max Retail Price (MRP) printed on the labels with effect from October 18, 2006 and asked the gathering to enforce the order issued by the Medical department.
He added that police and administration alone cannot enforce the law but public too should raise their voice. The Seminar was attended by Government officials, MTC members, NGOs and other public of Mon town. The program was presided by SDO Civil Mon Sadar Hiazu Meru. Savi also distributed a book published by him on Consumer Awareness, RTI Campaign, and Right to Food, as part of capacity building to the gathering. He also imparted Consumer Awareness training at the 2nd ENSF Conference on July 21.
The training ended with interaction and feedback where the SDO Civil, KNSK, KU and MTC informed that a monthly meeting is held regularly to control prices in the district and assured to form Consumers Committee to implement consumers’ rights effectively.
