Centre advises states on Power

For effective implementation of Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana(RGGVY), the Centre has advised all state governments to set up district committees with representation from MPs & MLAs to monitor the progress of rural electrification works. The chief ministers have been requested for expeditious implementation of the scheme and the chief secretaries of states have also been asked to resolve state level issues by holding state level coordination committee meetings. This information was given by Bharatsinh Solanki, minister of state, ministry of power in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. Some of the other measures for effective implementation of RGGVY included Rural Electrification Corporation (REC), to conduct frequent review meetings etc. with all the stakeholders etc. , the concerned State Governments, state power utilities and implementing agencies for expeditious implementation of the scheme on the agreed schedules; for speedier and effective implementation of projects, execution has been taken up on turnkey basis; to ensure qualitative execution of rural electrification works, a three tier quality control mechanism has been enforced under RGGVY; fund flow has been streamlined; grant amount of BPL connection has been enhanced to Rs.2200/- from Rs.1500/- and to take care of the cost escalation and cost norms for village electrification have been revised upward.
