Torrential rains that lashed Dimapur on Sunday has also affected about 20 houses in Supply Colony, Dimapur. Houses in the low lying areas of the colony were flooded with waist deep water and forcing the residents to move away higher grounds. Water remained logged in till Monday.
Blaming the flood due to poor drainage system, the GB of the colony, Yenito Swu, said the outlet of main drainage is only 16 inches wide which is too narrow to allow free flowing of water which flows in from different colonies.
Besides damaging the houses, brick boundary walls have also been washed away at the same time the residents have lost livestock and also a fish pond which was completely flooded.
The GB said that the colony has faced such problems in the past; however government has never come forward to take note of their problems.
Meanwhile, on behalf of the affected families, the GB has appealed the concerned government agencies to take measure to prevent water logging in the colony and also to provide relief to the affected families.
