1 non-local killed, 2 injured in Manipur

Of the two bombs hurled at private hospitals in Imphal, one exploded, injuring at least two persons and killing one non-local in a separate militancy related incident occurred in Manipur in the last 24-hours. A bomb exploded at Langol View Hospital, a private hospital located near RIMS early on Tuesday at around 4.15 am. Two persons identified as Khundrakpam Joykumar (48) and Ningthoujam Sanatomba, both hailing from Ningthoukhong in Bishnupur district attending a patient in the hospital sustained splinter injuries. However, their conditions are stated to be stable. Another failed bomb attack was carried out at Tomba Maternity Hospital on Tuesday at around 8 am. The bomb was later defused by personnel of state police bomb disposal squad and disposed. Police suspected KCP (MC) faction who had carried out similar attacks at other private hospitals in the previous month in connection with monetary demands from the hospitals. However, none of the militant outfits have so far claimed responsibility for any of the attacks. Meanwhile, a non-local was shot dead by suspected militants Tuesday morning around 8.25 am at Takyel Kolom Leikai in Imphal west in freshly erupted attacks on non-locals in the state. The victim was identified as Amit Shah (35) currently staying at a rented house at Pandon, Imphal. He was door to door salesman. In the aftermath of the killing of the non-local, police launched a cordon search operation at Takyel area and verification was conducted. Around 500 youths were rounded up from the area. There were no reports of picking up any suspected persons. The killing of the non-local was amidst the protest by residents of Swambung area in Imphal east where a non-local running a grocery was attacked and severely injured Monday evening at around 7 pm. The non-local hailing from Bihar’s Patehpur district was identified as Laldev Poddar (45) son of Rambabu Poddar was shot at the head by three miscreants inside his grocery shop at Swambung Kabui village under Lamlai police station in Imphal east. The victim is stated to be in a critical condition.
