Murder accused held

: Mokokchung police arrested a murder accused from Papernagar, Tuli for allegedly murdering his spouse on July 25 evening at around 6-7pm. Upon interrogation, it was disclosed that the victim and the accused were illegally married in 2005 as there was strong pressure and disapproval from the girl’s parents for them living together. As per the statement recorded at the police station during his interrogation on Sunday morning, the duo decided on Saturday to end their own lives by hanging themselves but his rope snapped twice and he found his spouse still breathing. He then got hold of a rope and strangulated her and later went to the IRB camp to report the incident. He was later arrested and brought to Mokokchung. The accused has been identified as Tomika, 25 years son of Vikheto of Rotomi village under Zunheboto. district. The deceased was identified as Imlinungla, 21 years daughter of Koranungba of Longjang village. Both the accused and the deceased were residing at Papernagar, Tuli and have two daughters. The accused is presently under the custody of Mokokchung PS-I and further investigations are still on.
