State Planning Board (SPB) deputy chairman Neiba Kronu held a meeting along with the administration, road and bridges, town council, civil societies, Chakhesang Youth Front and public at his official residence on July 27 to discuss irregularities and capriciousness of BRO with regard to NH-150 where a bridge had collapsed more than a year back between Chakhabama and RD Block Kikruma, and added that despite clarification sought by the different agencies there was no response from BRO.
Kronu said the meeting discussed and felt that Inquiry Committee was necessary to be set up by the competent authority or take the BRO to the court under PIL. The deputy chairman also said the bridge between Enhulumi and Mesulumi along the NH-150 was also posing as a danger to the commuters of Phek and Kiphire districts as it was the life line of the two districts.
So far, he said, no proper sub-way was constructed to cater to the traffic as the present construction might take more than a year to complete.
He also recalled that the DC Phek had recently called a meeting with BRO/EE (R&B) of Phek and Pfutsero division and also with civil organizations of Phek district but no proper corrective measure were taken up by BRO in this regard, and added that the latest being the technical snag detected by the Pfutsero Town Council, EE PWD (R&B) in Pfutsero town showed the irregularity of the BRO while executining works.
Kronu further said it was consistently learnt that the works were not at all in conformity with the National Highway standard specification. He lamented that the BRO appeared to be neglecting the NH-150 stretch within Pfutsero town since no maintenance and repair works had been carried out for several years without any drainage.
