Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has lauded state chief secretary Lalthara for acknowledging their “consistent crusade” against DAN government’s alleged fund mismanagement and lack of development in Nagaland. “In the development sector in Nagaland funds sanctioned are not utilized as planned and public interest are weaker than the private interest. For these reasons the State is lagging behind compared to other States where funds are properly utilized and common interest is placed above individual interest,” NPCC media cell chairman R Paphino and member M Kikon quoted Lalthara as saying in one of Assam’s daily July 26. He was speaking at the 2nd Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) conference at Mon Town on July 21 last, it stated. Pointing out that several “interesting questions” arises out of his statement, the NPCC media cell queried: “If, as he says the funds sanctioned are not utilized as planned, is it because the planning is wrong? Or is it because the funds are not properly utilized as he avers? What are the reasons why funds are not properly utilized?” While acknowledging Lalthara’s statement that state was lagging behind other states in Northeast, the NPCC felt corruption is a major reason why it was so. “The genesis of any scam stems from corruption and this NPF-DAN is a scam-ridden Government,” the media cell charged. Further, the Congress party also expressed happiness that a person no less than state chief secretary was “admitting the fact that public interest is weaker than private interest under the DAN Government.” “We rest our case before the public through the wise and experienced comments of the chief secretary,” NPCC media cell averred.
