Outbreak of an unknown swine disease has reportedly affected hundreds of pigs in Viswema village about 20 Km away from Kohima. The outbreak of disease was detected following a two-day free veterinary health camp organized by Tragopan Club, Viswema village in collaboration with state Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department which concluded July 28. During the two-day health camp, altogether 257 pigs, five dogs and two cattle were treated and owners were provided with free medicines for suspected outbreak of swine disease. The State Veterinary Department had collected several samples from the ailing animals for further examination. However, the state veterinary department is yet to come to a conclusion on the examination of the disease as it did not have the facilities in its laboratory to carry out the necessary tests.
