Normal workings at courts in Manipur were disturbed on Wednesday with advocates on cease work strike decrying the suspension of construction works of the high court complex due to interference by militant outfits. Advocates under the banner of High Court Bar Association and All Manipur Bar Association staged protest against the suspension of construction works of the High Court Complex at Chingmeirong which have been taken up as a component of the Capitol Project. The construction works were suspended due to threats meted out by militants to officials and workers in connection with a monetary demand which the contractor failed to pay. Strongly denouncing the militants disturbances, advocates launched a sit-in protest suspending all court works and the same would continue till August 1. At the protest site, the spokespersons of the two bodies said that if the militants do not withdraw their threats and allow resuming of works, they would be compelled to intensify their course of agitation. The suspension of works by the advocates has disturbed the court working as hearings of many cases have been stalled.
