Minister for PHE, Dr K. Ngangshi Ao on Friday formally launched the two-day State Road Show coinciding with the Tsüngremong festival at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung amidst great enthusiasm and cultural fervour. The state wide Road Show, a flagship programme of the DAN government will showcase the government’s activities for the welfare of the people and also demonstrate the diverse culture of the Nagas in tune with the celebration of the Tsüngremong festival of the Ao community. Delivering the inaugural address, Dr. Ngangshi Ao said that the statewide road show was a unique programme, conceived by the present government to do away with the sense of detachment and indifference from the minds of the people about the government. He said the road show was also conceptualized to serve as an interface for the public to interact with different departments and their activities and create awareness. Dr Ao hoped that such interface between the government and the people would strengthen the delivery of goods and services to the people and above all, further strengthen the public- private- partnership for all round development of the state. He pointed out that though Nagaland had attained 46 years of statehood yet it was lagging far behind its neighbours in terms of socio-economic development. He expressed hope that the unique road show would accelerate the tempo of all round development of the state. Stating that the Naga society was “not a healthy society,” the minister called for remaining true and honest to oneself. “Nagaland is turning into a land of paupers, beggars but without begging bowls,” he asserted adding that many NGOs and church organizations and individuals depended on donations. Calling this a “wrong mindset,” Dr. Ao said instead, Nagas should hard work and added that any genuine local entrepreneur would definitely receive logistic support from the government. He also pointed out the rampant extortion of different kinds from innumerable groups and said Naga society would remain a “very sick society” unless all these burning issues were addressed collectively. Touching upon the Naga political problem, the minister said that the protracted problem called for collective wisdom and effort to achieve the goal. MLA Nuklutoshi and leaders of various NGOs attended the inaugural function. Cultural troupes from different Naga tribes presented various cultural items. The prelude to the Tsüngremong festival cum road show programme was marked by presentation of cultural dances and songs from various communities including Konyak, Kyong (Lotha), Sumi besides the Aos. Bhangra presented by the personnel of 150 Bn CRPF Mkg and Pipe Band Display by the 9 Assam Rifles added colours to the show.
