The Assam Valley Baptist Mission (AVBM) celebrated its 4th Foundation Day on July 31 at Nakachari HQ near Mariani. The Mission has a total of 44 churches as on date.
AVBM is a common Baptist Christian venture initiated by about 28 Baptist Churches mostly independent churches located in Jorhat and bordering with Nagaland in the year 2005. According to AVBM President Er. Temsu Wathi Ao, tremendous development has been taking place in church growth and evangelism in the Assam-Nagaland bordering areas epicenter at Nakachari in Jorhat District of Assam.
The function was chaired by its President Er. Temsu Wathi Ao. Rev.Dr. Lima Jamir, reader of ETC Jorhat had graced the occasion as the speaker. The Nagaland Missionary Movement has been actively associating with this Mission and currently sponsoring an evangelist since February 2008 to date. The basic salary for the evangelist is being supported by Rev. Dr. Lima Jamir and family and additional incidental cost has been mobilized by the NMM.
Rev. Dr. Lima Jamir in his speech praised the “Assam Valley Baptist Mission” for initiating this great endeavour with very limited resources but which is a perfect mixture of churches and people together wanting to achieve some positive goal in God’s ministry and hence it’s a very constructive approach with a new initiative within the participating church.
Huni Gogoi, Evangelist of the mission gave one year report of his ministry while Sanjay Pantati, general secretary read out the Mission report of last one year. Recalling the assault and torture meted out to Tarun Gogoi, Pastor of Rankham Baptist Church which is an associate church under the AVBM, Secretary reminded the tension and trauma suffered by all to overcome the situation. He also thanked all the ranks and file of AVBM and well wishers including the Office bearers of the Sibsagar Baptist Association in guiding to resolve the impasse.
