A number of district level officers from Dimapur along with the GBs of 28 villages and members of town council Medziphima graced the occasion with their presence. The voluntary participation by the students from Assam Rifles School, St Francis School and Sainik School Pungalwa joined by families of 20 Assam Rifles made the event colourful. On one single day 6000 fruit bearing saplings of orange, mango, guava and lemon were planted in the areas of Kukidolong, Phiphima, Zubza, Heningkungalwa and Pungalwa. 6000 saplings each of bamboo and halauk were planted as bio fence at various locations thereby planting 18000 saplings in one day. Fruit saplings were also distributed to all the GBs for planting them at their respective villages. In his speech Commander 5 Sector exhorted the children and elders to come ahead and secure the future not only for themselves but also for their next generations. He highlighted the catastrophic effect of deforestation on the environment and the weather which is being experienced in this monsoon season by the entire state. He made the children take a pledge to turn their respective areas into a Green Eco- Friendly Zone thereby helping the state regain its lost green cover. An information booklet was also distributed during the event to create awareness amongst the youth about the harmful effects of deforestation as well as the benefits of tree plantation. The function was followed with a tea arranged for all present at the event.
