Staff of Rate Control Department, Dimapur Municipal Council seized 518 crates of poultry egg from traders at New Market and Hazi Park Friday for selling the product at price more than the rate fixed by the DMC. The DMC has fixed the price at Rs. 80 per plate for white egg and Rs. 90 per plate for brown egg but the traders were allegedly charging more than the fixed rates. The DMC rate was enhanced from Rs. 60 and Rs. 70 per plate by the DMC. Vihuto Yeptho, Convener, Rate Control said the DMC was under tremendous pressure of the public in regard to the rate charged by the traders to the consumers. Stating that administration is closely monitoring the matter, DMC would also be stricter on the matter. He further stated that the present rate will continue in the market till new rate was fixed by the DMC. Vihuto has also appreciated the Supply Colony Council and GB for assuring to co-operate with the DMC and hand over any trader found to be charging more than the DMC rate. He also appealed to other colonies to extend same kind of cooperation to DMC. It may be mentioned that in the month of June 2009 the egg traders of Dimapur had appealed to DMC enhance the rate to Rs. 100-105 per crate stating that Rs. 80 and 90 is too low to make any profit. In a statement the egg traders had also cautioned to stop their business if rate was not enhanced within a short time.
