Nagas boys for COBRA bn.

Deputy Inspector General (Operations), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), P M Ramalingam, disclosed that recruitment of Naga boys for the COBRA battalion was already in the offing along with the normal recruitment process. Talking to this Reporter after a briefing with the personnel’s at the CRPF transit camp, ADC court, Dimapur, on Monday, the DIG(Ops) said Combat Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA) is a specialized force raised by the CRPF to fight against the Naxalites. Informing about the various duties carried out by the force, the DIG revealed that the Chief Minister’s home security along with the escort for the Governor, was provided by the CRPF. It may be mentioned that even the Close Protection Team (CPT) for the Governor is provided by team. He informed that there are three battalions engaged for various duties in the state with one each for Kohima and Dimapur district. Proposal to set up a Group Centre Nagaland has already been agreed in principle by the chief minister he said. Ramalingam also said if the proposal came through, it would provide economic benefits for the people living in the surrounding areas. On recruitment, he pointed out that most of the vacancies of the state were filled up by Manipuris because Nagas do not participate in recruitment rallies in Manipur. However, this time the recruitment would be held at the Nagaland Armed Police Training Centre (NAPTC), Chumukedima, for the convenience of the candidates. Earlier, while interacting with the jawans, the DIG urged them to give utmost importance to discipline and also maintain a good police-public relationship. He also promised to look into the various problems faced by the jawans at the transit camp. It may be noted that with 211 battalions, CRPF is the second largest force after the Indian Army.
