A one-day rodent awareness campaign was organized by department of agriculture under Niuland Sub-division on July 13 at ADC Niuland Conference Hall with Jacob Yanthan, SDO (Store) agriculture department Dimapur as resource person.
Speaking on the significance of bamboo flowering related to increase of rat population and rat psychology, the resource person also demonstrated the methods of control measures by way of indigenous trapping, mechanical and chemical.
District Agriculture Officer Dimapur, N. Wetsah in his key note address said the rodent awareness campaign was organized in all over the district and sub-division as the state government declared the year of capacity building and with the objective to equip the farmers as how to combat the rodent menace.
The District Agriculture Officer also mentioned the famine incident occurred in Mizoram state was due to heavy bamboo flowering and also encouraged the farmers to adopt the scientific method of farming as well as double cropping to increase crop production and productivity.
Lauding the department of agriculture for organizing the relevant rodent campaign in the sub-division, EAC under ADC office Niuland, Vikhweno also urged the participants to take the training seriously with the new technology to increase the crop production.
According to District Horticulture Officer Dimapur, N. Wetsah, the programme was marked by distribution of rodenticide to 34 participants from 62 Villages.
