With the objective to alert farmers on possible rodent outbreak in future, a one day awareness campaign on rodent pest management for farmers under Mokokchung Sadar was held at the conference hall of District Agriculture Office, Mokokchung on July 10. Resource person Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer, (SDAO) Tizit, Renbamo in his introductory note drew the attention of the participating farmers on the devastating destruction caused by rodent as experienced in Mizoram state in 1980s. As such the resource person dwelt at length on the behavior, habitation, migration, foot habit of rodent so as to enable the farmers to make an effective approach in rodent pest management. He also enlightened the farmers about the modern method of controlling the rodent menace. Resource person, Agriculture joint director T.V Holo also spoke on the concept of rodent management.
A booklet on rodent management in Ao dialect which was distributed to the participating farmers revealed that there were about 100 species of rodents in the country of which 16 were found in the North East and out of it, four were identified as most dangerous rodent which caused great devastation particularly to the farmers in the region.
