Kohima Municipal Council in connection to call for registration of plots and building within its jurisdiction has clarified that it did not consider the registration as property tax but an initiative to assess and bring about data base information for land use, holdings and ownership with the municipals jurisdiction due to which technical inadequacy arises in attempts to prepare projects and schemes. A press release issued by its chairperson, Vipopal Kintso said its felt as an elementary step towards implementation of mandatory reforms like E-governance and property tax without which flow funds under schemes like JNNURM and ADB will not materialize. The KMC chairman also stated that it was clearly indicated under the Municipal Act 2001, the necessity to undergo various formalities as well as technicalities to be duly approved and sanctioned by the government but since it was solely for the purpose of assessment and registration, a minimal fee of Rs 100 for plot and RCC building and Rs 50 for hill type building was realized. Meanwhile KMC appealed to the public and government not to misunderstand the motive but take it in a positive light to bring about expedited change and development in the capital.
