Francis wins Taekwondo gold

Francis Tikhir, a Taekwondo player from Sports Academy IG stadium, who won Gold medal Super Heavy weight category at the 27th National Sub-Junior Taekwondo championship, Visakhaptanam, Andra Pradesh from July 10 to 12, was on Friday felicitated by the Sports Academy, IG Stadium, department of Youth Resources and Sports, Nagaland. He was handed over with cash and bouquet by Mr. Beiu Angami, director, department of Youth Resources and Sports, Nagaland. In his address, Mr. Beiu Angami congratulated Francis for bringing laurels to the state and hoped that he would continue to work hard to earn more fame at various levels both at national and international levels competition. He also disclosed that the department of education, under SSA has adopted one each school in each district for Taekwondo and Archery disciplines. Revealing that the department of youth resources and sports has earmarked some funds for the participation of state players in various national games, the director said that sports academy in Kohima and Dimapur would go outside the state to participate in national school games. Beiu further disclosed that the state is likely to host the 1st Intra North East Sports Festival year and urged the sports persons to get prepare for the sports festival. Gold medalist Francis Tikhir, in his address thanked the almighty God and the department for his achievement. Earlier, the function was chaired by Visabiu Peseyie, Taekwondo coach, invocation prayer by Pete Krose, vice principal KCK and special number by Pepe and friends. The vote of thanks was proposed by Hunezo Thisa, Archery coach. Teisobou Sekhose, administrator IG stadium and DSO, Kohima, Keneichanuo Sekhose, KMC councilor and Ruopfu Meyase, football coach also attended the felicitation progamme. Meanwhile, the Nagaland team was also awarded with Active Participation Award 27th National Sub-Junior Taekwondo championship.
