Governors award for distinction in art, music and literature

The Governor’s award for distinction in the field of art, music and literature was also announced. The recipients would be formally presented the awards by the governor of Nagaland at a function to be held at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on a date to be announced later. The individuals included: Prof. (Mrs) Temsula Ao (Literature): She is a leading Naga scholar, novelist and poetess writing in English and her works have been widely translated into German, French, Assamese, Bengali and Hindi. H. Akup Buchem Phom (Art) - a professional painter and sculptor based in Dimapur. He has exhibited his works in different parts of the country in some of the premier cultural institutions of India like the Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts, New Delhi. Lanu Pongen (Art) - a sculptor and has been commissioned to create works of sculptural arts for various government agencies. He has participated in many exhibitions and festivals all over the country. Nini Lungalang (Music) who holds the Licentiate degree of Trinity College of Music, London. She has been instrumental in grooming many youngsters in the field of piano playing. An accomplished musician, she has given several outstanding performances in piano playing especially in classical music. Meguo-o Mechulho (Music) - a veteran folk singer who has pursued with great effort in reviving and preserving folk songs. He has also composed new folk songs and performed at many places around the globe.
