New Market XI, Excel United win

New Market XI and Excel United Club, Kohima registered facile victorious in the opening day of the 15th Youth Soccer Championship (YSC), played on the theme “March on the front”, organized by Classic Club, Kohima at local ground, here Monday. Two time champions-1995 and 1998, New Market XI blanked Climax Club Nerhema 2-0 in the first match. Tosovi Khape scored both the goals in the 22nd and 45th minutes. Khriesamhalie and Khrieneisa from Climax Club Nerhema were awarded a yellow card for unsporting behaviour. Playing a record 15th time in a row New Market XI was led by Deithozolie Peseyie, who was also playing from the same team for 15th time. Interestingly New Market XI was playing its 56th match, which started in 1995 till date. Excel United Club, Kohima drubbed Froster FC Tuophe 5-0 in the second match. Diminutive striker, skipper Mhasiemhalie Mathew Yhome led from the front, netting two goals (2nd and 3rd) in the 32nd and 45tn minutes. Earlier, strong contender Excel United Club had a dream start when Kezevito Vizo netted home the first goal in the very first minute. The fourth and fifth goal for Excel United Club were awarded from the boots of Maongkumzuk Changkiri (48th minute) and Kethozapu Zeliang (68th minute), while Froster FC Tuophe player Khriezohu Seyie was cautioned with yellow card in 54th minute. Earlier, declaring the championships opened, parliamentary secretary, social welfare and women department, C. Sazo was pleased on witnessing a large turned out of teams in the championships. He urged the players to display the qualities of discipline, self-respect, cooperation and maintain the spirit of true sportsmanship throughout the tournament. In his welcome address, K. Neibou Sekhose, president Classic Club, Kohima said that 30 teams are taking part in tournament, while Rev Dr. Tsiebu Rutsa gave the invocation prayer and a special number was presented by Ledilhounuo and the function was compered by Asanuo Zashu.
