BJP expresses concern over unabated price rise

BJP Nagaland and BJP units from Kohima, Dimapur Wokha, Mokokchung, Tuensang districts has expressed concern over price rise of essential commodities and various other items in the state. In a memorandum to the governor, BJP Nagaland said the price rise on essential commodities has gone “beyond imaginable” in the entire country and has affected people living below poverty line. Lamenting the ineffectiveness of the PDS the party said that no food grains were available in government godown for the last few years. Asserting that it was the government’s duty to ensure that sufficient food grains and other essential commodities to face any kind of natural calamities or problems in the country, the party urged the government to come forward and rescue the people from price rise and make necessary arrangements to maintain balanced income and expenditure of the common people. Meanwhile, BJP Kohima district stating that people of Kohima were living in “great hardship and miserable condition because of their inability to afford two square meals a day with their meager wage”, drew the attention of the DC at the inefficiency of the Public Distribution System and also pointed out that the funds provided for the public were being misused and the public were not availing development schemes. The BJP party Kohima therefore, urged the DC to ensure correction and proper implementation of the schemes judiciously for the welfare of the public. Also drawing attention to the alarming price rise of essential commodities in Dimapur district, BJP Dimapur district said the price index has risen more than one and half times in the last four months. The party urged the administration to ameliorate the suffering of the common men by streamlining the PDS and ensuring that intended beneficiaries get benefit of government schemes besides monitoring price line and checking hoarding and black marketeering of essential items. BJP Wokha district also lamenting the escalating prices of essential commodities in the district said it has been affecting the common people and those living below poverty line. Stating the fallout and mismanagement of essentials through PDS said the diversion of commodities through PDS was a “crime” and called for total revamp of the system. The party has appealed to DC Wokha to initiate pre-emptive measures at the earliest to check the unabated price rise in the district. BJP Mokokchung district in a memorandum to the DC demanded to immediately bring down and regularize rate of essential commodities in the interest of the people of the district/country. BJP Tuensang unit has also appealed to the Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang to review the prices of all consumer foods, products and medicines and put up a Maximum Retail Price (MRP) for all the items. In a release the unit alleged that the responsible authority was not taking any actions despite the price rise across all items and also stated that the consumer court was not practicing and doing nothing for the welfare of the people.
