‘Nagaland can be another Switzerland’

Nagaland has rich potential in tourism and could be another Switzerland if peace prevailed, said IGAR (N) Maj.Gen. J.P Nehra AVSM while inaugurating the Company Operation Based (COB) of the Delta Company, 164 TA (Home & Heart) Naga Regiment Battalion at Wokha here Tuesday. Today there is peace in Nagaland because of the public, Gen Nehra said and complimented the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police Wokha for their active coordination and the general public of Wokha for their active cooperation with the security forces in maintaining peace and harmony in the district. We want Nagaland and the entire country to be peaceful he said and added that peace and development could be maintained if there was close cooperation between the public and the security forces. The Commanding Officer of the 164 TA Bn Col. D.A Patil while welcoming the IGAR(N) gave a brief account of the new camp and revealed that seven acres of land had been acquired for establishing the company headquarter since 2007 and the development work had been carried out since then. Stating that D.Coy has been stationed in Wokha since 2007, he thanked the Assam Rifles for providing the company with accommodation. Stating that most of the jawans of D.Coy were from Wokha district, Col. Patil expressed hope that the jawans would act as a good link between the local populace and the security forces in maintaining peace in the district. He also assured that the company who will be stationed in Wokha will extend all possible help to those youth who aspired to join Armed forces. Further, he also informed that many developmental projects will be implemented through TA Bn in the future. It may be mentioned that the 164 Naga Regiment, TA (Home & Heart) Battalion was raised in November 2005 at Ranikhet, Uttaranchal and the Bn on completion of their training and attachment was deployed in the state in 2007. A company each of the TA Bn is presently deployed at Tuensang, Mokokchung, Wokha, Zunheboto, Phek and Vihokhu and two company at its Bn headquarter Jakhama, while another platoon is deployed at Akaito. There is also a proposal to raise another Battalion of Territorial Army (Ecological) which is said to be under active consideration.
