Advisor of Sericulture and Cooperative department MLA Azheto Zhimomi Tuesday said promotion of grass root level and all round development had always been the main focus of state and central government. However, government cannot look after every aspect of development especially in the field of education, therefore under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan project, government had vested power to village education committee, village councils, GBs and colony leaders to ensure that children’s education were successfully implemented, Azheto said. Speaking at the inauguration of newly constructed Government Middle School building at Purana Bazar, east Dimapur, Azheto said to ensure proper implementation of schemes and education, only honest and sincere leader should be appointed in the village education committee. Coming down heavily against proxy teachers, Azheto commented that those who do not have the quality of a teacher should not be teaching students. He questioned “when a graduate teacher keeps a matriculate student as proxy teacher where is the quality education?” stating that if trend of proxy teacher continued “our children will never be able to compete with the rest of the world”. He therefore called upon teachers, village leaders and education committee members to cooperate with each other to and compete with the rest of the world. Besides lauding the construction committee members for the successful completion of school building, Azheto assured to construct school compound for the students to conduct extracurricular activities next summer. District Inspector of Schools Dimapur Khetoshe Yeptho also speaking at the programme urged the teachers to inculcate the spirit of dedication and sincerity. He said increasing enrollment of students in a school depended upon contribution of teachers’ quality education, for which DIS requested teachers to be sincere in their duties and at the same time appealed the colony elders to be a watchdog of teachers’ performance. Briefing teachers, village education committee members, council members and colony elders on school construction report, Chairman village education committee H. Khutovi Awomi informed that government middle school was constructed under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan scheme 2008-09 at the total cost of rupees 4, 50,000.
