New GOC takes charge today

Lt. Gen. N. K. Singh AVSM,VSM takes over as GOC 3 Corps on August 21 from Lt.Gen. R. K. Loomba AVSM. According to a defence release, the new GOC 3 Corps is a highly decorated Infantry officer and experienced army brass who is also an alumni of Indian Military Academy. Lt.Gen. N.K.Singh was commissioned into First Battalion the Third Gorkha Rifles on December 24, 1972. He is keen to further strengthen the bonds of friendship between the people and security forces, and enable people in all walks of life to be a part of the progress of India, the release stated. The new GOC 3 Corps served in several areas and held enviable appointments, both in India and abroad. In recognition of his sterling contribution and dedication to the organization Lt. Gen. N. K. Singh was awarded the ‘Vishist Seva Medal’ while commanding his battalion in a UN mission in Rwanda in the year 1995, and ‘Ati Vishist Seva Medal’ as a General Officer Commanding in J&K in 2007, it stated. Before taking over the present appointment the General was posted at Integrated Headquarters of MoD (Army).
