The recent decision of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) of bifurcating the Dhansiri MAC constituency by reducing a large area of Dimasa dominated locality as part of its delimitation process has drawn wide spread ethnic resentment from the Dimasa community. In a press statement by All Dimasa Student Union Karbi Anglong (ADSU) District Committee, the organization has threatened to launch vigorous movement to stop the council’s move to divide the Dimasa community geographically. The statement mentioned that during the formation of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous District, Dhansiri constituency was created to ensure the representation of Dimasa community in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC). ADSU mentioning that Dhansiri was not the largest constituency among the MAC constituencies of the district, like Langpher and Kopili said there cannot be any reason accept “hegemony” of the larger community to “marginalize” the Dimasas. The ADSU mentioned that division of Dhansiri constituency would be equivalent to “murder of democracy” in the political institution like KAAC and said the people of Dhansiri constituency would resist the move at all cost. The union appealed to all right thinking citizens of the district and the state to come forward to prevent the “sinister” design of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).
