A state level consultation on women empowerment organized by Confederation of Tribal people in Development (COTPID) was held on August 19 and 20 at DUDA guest house, Kohima. Altogether 60 delegates from different organizations like NBCC women department, NMA, ENWO, Hill Area Development Organization (HADO), Mon, Rural Area Development Society (RADS), Peren, Social Welfare Society for Rural Development (SOWSORD), Phek and Regional Rural Development Agency (RERDA), Tuensang attended the state level consultation.
Parliamentary Secretary R Khing was the chief guest in the inaugural function while general manager, NABARD, K C Panda addressed the closing function as the guest of honour.
Participants were enlightened through different presentations by principal of Baptist High, Kohima, Pfhelhou Pfhelie, Chief Zonal Officer for Social Action (CASA) Eastern Zone, Satyajit Das, chair person, Nagaland State Women Commission for Women , Sano Vamuzo, Senior coordinator CASA–NEI, L Meru.
The participants identified the gender disparity as a common issue in Naga society which should be addressed collectively by the government departments, NGOs, churches and financial institutions for future transformative actions.
During the consultation, participants resolved to conduct a state level workshop on women empowerment involving COTPID, NBCC women department, NMA and ENWO in consultation with Nagaland State Women Commission for women and with proper representation from both women and men. They also resolved to have an action based research study on VDBs with focus on participation of women and their due entitlements for development.
