The two Virgo cement officials who were abducted by unidentified gunmen from Meghalaya-Assam border in East Garo Hills district continue to be in the captivity with security agencies hinting that a lesser-known militant outfit Rabha Viper Army is behind the abduction. On Friday, four armed men abducted Virgo Cement plant manager Sambu Danuka and chief engineer PK Hori were abducted at gun point. The militants released Nirmal Rabha, the driver before taking over the vehicle with the Virgo cement officials and speeding away towards the dense jungle of Garo Hills. “There is no breakthrough yet, although efforts are on to rescue them after we got fresh clues,” East Garo Hills district Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtynger said. The abductors have not telephone or sent any feelers to the relatives of the two hostages or to Virgo Cement authorities to demand for ransom to secure their release. Investigations into the abduction of the two Virgo Cement officials have given us a new lead pointing out that another militant group was behind the incident, he added. “Our preliminary investigations indicated that the abduction was carried out by a new militant group and not ULFA but nonetheless, we are analysing with our investigation to rescue the officials,” Mr Nongtynger said. Earlier, security agencies suspected ULFA militants to be behind the kidnapping since the area is known to be a stronghold of the ULFA. “We are adopting a very cautious approach to secure their safe-release as doing something might endanger the lives of the two,” he said.
