Imagine a person in distress who dialed up the control room of the fire service to inform of a fire incident but only to be shouted back by the man on duty at the other end. This exactly happened at the fire-control room at the state capital on Sunday evening when this correspondent on receiving information about a fire that broke out in a house near TCP Gate at around 8 pm. “Where is the fire? Don’t tell lies. Who are you?” the man on the other end of the line at the fire control room yelled back at the caller and refused to listen. A fire reportedly broke out from a roadside chicken outlet near TCP gate at around 8 pm. Neighbours on detecting the fire immediately informed this correspondent who in turn tried to inform the fire-control room. However, the telephone (No.2222952 & 101) at the Control Room of the fire service remained engaged for several minutes. After several minutes of trying, the telephone line finally got through but only to be shouted back. Fortunately, the fire which had partially damaged the wall of the shop was reportedly put off manually by the neighbours before it spread further. The fire reportedly started from the electric oven used for dressing chicken which was left switched on. Though the incident of the fire was informed to fire service control room, the fire service never turned up.
