All the six arrested in connection with the gangrape and murder of a 30-year old woman on August 22 in New Ralan area Wokha were reportedly brought to Kohima owing to security reasons. According to police source, the six arrested including the husband of the deceased and a woman were brought to Kohima yesterday and were presently lodged at the North Police Station where further investigations were being carried out. It was learnt that the police was unable to crack into the case so far as the suspected main accused have been absconding. It may be mentioned that the body of a 30-year-old woman married to a Muslim trader who went missing on August 21 evening, was discovered without clothes in a jungle below New Ralan, Old Ralan and Chandalusung village junction, under Wokha district Saturday afternoon. The deceased was suspected to be gang raped before she was brutally murdered. In connection with the incident, one person was lynched to death as he reportedly provided refuge to two accused who were absconding. Situation remained tense and an irate mob had also reportedly set fire to a truck. Meanwhile, MLA, W. Kithan of 40 Bhandari A/C Wokha expressed “deepest sympathy” and condolences to all the bereaved family members of the victims of the “unfortunate rape and murder” incident that took place at Ralan on August 22. The MLA through a statement appealed to all concerned that nothing should be done to further aggravate the already tense and ugly situation. “Two crimes do not make anyone right in the eyes of the law,” he said and called for “wise decision” to see that the law enforcers were assisted and the law be allowed to take its own course. The Kohima Lotha EloeHoho (KLEH) also has in strongest terms condemned the alleged gangrape and murder of the woman and urged the administration as well as the police to arrest the culprits at the earliest possible and not to grant bail. The KLEH has also demanded the highest degree of punishment to the “murderers and rapists,” in view of the nature of crime committed by them. Expressing anguish over the incident, the KLEH through a statement asserted that no form of justice could justify and mollify such “heinous crime” which has once again threatened the social institution.
