Swine flu check posts to be opened at NH-39, 53

Entry of people from outside the state on the NH-39 and NH-53 will be monitored for Swine Flu virus as Manipur health services authority have decided to intensify surveillance on the dreaded disease with the on set of winter season. Checking of people arriving at the Imphal Airport and at Moreh international border gate has already started since the early part of June this year with the outbreak of the disease reported globally. Two new medical check posts will be opened at Mao gate bordering with Nagaland on the NH-39 and at Jiribam on the NH-53 bordering with Assam, Dr Th Bubhonchandra, the nodal officer of Swine Flu in the state said Wednesday. The works have been taken up in consultation with the district level medical officers posted at Senapati and Jiribam sub-division of Imphal east, he added. Even though three people were suspected of contracting the H1N1 virus in the state, except in the case of a girl fencer who was tested positive, the other results were negative, he said. Swine Flu virus is more active in the cold season, Bubonchandra observed adding taking up precautionary measures to combat the disease would be intensified with the approach of winter. One lakh doses of tamiflu for treatment of patientssuffering from H1N1 virus will arrive in the state in the first week of September, he said adding that masks for supply for health workers and members also arrived in the state. Manipur started surveillance for Swine Flu with Rapid Response Team (RRT) comprising of five to six doctors at the district level and opening of control rooms at the district level since the report of outbreak of the disease in Assam in the month of June this year. Rapid Response Team (RRT) in all the districts has been put into service from 9 am till 6 pm everyday.
