Drawing attention to a news report that appeared in a section of the local press over the Darogapathar gang rape case, Additional Public Prosecutor Akumba clarified that the hearing had not been postponed to September 2 as reported. Akumba said the hearing was held on August 25 in the Court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge, where two of the three accused- Temsulemba and Khaghato pleaded guilty to the charges. The third, Bonatho Zhimo could not be produced in court on Tuesday due to legal procedure involved with him being booked under the NSA. The APP on Tuesday had processed framing of charges against all the three accused while the trail of the third accused Bonatho Zhimo was fixed on September 2 because he was not produced to the court on time from custody. Temsulemba was charged with harboring criminals, criminal conspiracy and abetment while Bonatho and Khaghoto were charged with criminal trespass, gang rape, attempted murder and criminal conspiracy. Akumba stated that although the two accused who appeared in court pleaded guilty, the conviction would be done only after examining all the witnesses and evidence. He also clarified that the trial of the two accused which was held on Tuesday was not invalid as reported in the local news daily. (Staff Reporter)
