Pointing out that the Nagaland University’s advertisement published on August 10 in the local dailies, had not followed the recruitment policy issued by the ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions, department of personnel and training, government of India, the Nagaland University Non-Teaching Staff Association (NUNTSA) has demanded immediate rectification of the matter so as to avoid “unwanted consequences.” NUNTSA president, Medo Chirhah and assistant general secretary, Sachu Apon in a faxed statement said the particular ministry had issued an office memorandum on July 5, 2005 wherein it was clearly stated that in case of direct recruitment to group C and D posts normally attracting candidates from a locality or a region, it would be generally fixed in proportion to the population of the Scheduled Cates and Scheduled Tribes. It was also pointed out that the memorandum had shown the percentage of ST in Nagaland as 45 % whereas OBC and SC were shown nil. The NUNTSA observed that the office memorandum was not followed during the recent advertisement and the discrepancy seriously discussed in its meeting on August 24. Demanding immediate rectification of the matter, the NUNTSA resolved to leave no stone unturned in order to protect the rights of the local candidates.
