Students of Sao Chang Government College, Tuensang continued with their agitation on Wednesday demanding the removal of their principal, I. Alempokba from the college. Hundreds of students assembled at the police point Tuesnsang and marched towards the deputy commissioner’s office holding placards some of which read “Not fit for college principal, better be a film producer and director,” “SCC is not a film studio but educational institute,” “We are against I. Alempokba, Hitler of SCC,” “Don’t ruin our future” etc. The students then submitted a memorandum to the DC addressed to the Director, Higher Education demanding the removal of the principal for his “utter negligence” to the student’s welfare. The Sao Chang students in the memorandum also threatened to boycott the classes and go for further agitation until the principal was removed and a new principal posted. The protesting students said that principal’s “utter negligence” to the student’s welfare was “not tolerable.” “Most often, he is out of station and he never gives in-charge to any of his subordinates,” the students alleged. On Tuesday, the students also pasted anti-principal pamphlets around the town demanding the principal’s removal and locked his office and nailed the door with a bench. The immediate cause of the students’ upheaval was reportedly due to the declaration of holiday for two days just ahead of the college general election which, as per the student leaders’ claims had resulted in a “major problem” for the students as preparations for the election and other college activities were in full swing. Besides, the disgruntled students were also protesting against the principal’s alleged “irregularity and irresponsibility” many times in the past.
